Karl
Boniface - Owner/Driver
-Married to Diana with 2 children
-Owner of Karl Boniface Plumbing
Karl has
been drag racing for many years, but entered at a serious level in 1991 with the
purchase of a full steel bodied 1968 Camaro from the U.S.A.
|
In 1998 Karl ceased drag racing to start a family with his wife, Diana,
and to focus on his blossoming plumbing business, Karl Boniface Plumbing Ltd in his home
town of Invercargill.
He had every intention of re-entering the drag racing scene but wanted to introduce
something very special, something that would please the crowd and be memorable to the
spectators, when the timing was right.
After considerable research on the American drag racing scene and establishing contacts
there, Karl traveled back to the U.S.A and purchased a complete, successful, reliable Nostalgia
Nitro Funny Car with a corvette body shell.
That car is the Nitroflashback, and it has already been run sucessfully at Ruapuna Park
International Raceway, in Christchurch and at Karl's home track, Teretonga Park Raceway.

Diana
Boniface
Of
course, behind every good man is a good woman. Diana and Karl first
met as teenagers and have always shared an interest in Hot Rodding
and Drag Racing. Diana has taken time out from full employment to
raise their two children; daughter, Renee (5) and son, Lee (7).
During this time she has voluntarily worked with St Johns as a Trainee
Ambulance Officer for two years, gaining Phec 2 status and more
recently, is working night shifts at a local rest home in a support
role. Diana has always been fully supportive of Karl's endeavours,
be it business or motor sport and as a family, they look forward
to travelling, meeting new people and entertaining fans.
Glenn
MacIntosh
-
Qualified Engineer Reconditioner
- 23 years experience with same employer
- Married with three young children
Glenn,
(Karl’s brother in law) is very methodical when it comes to
engine rebuilding and pays a lot of attention to detail. In all
the years of racing the Camaro, there had been only one engine failure
and that was due to old parts.
Graeme
Eyeles
-
Qualified Diesel Mechanic and Service Manger, Cable Price Equipment
- 25 years experience
- Married with one young child
“Graeme
is a real 55 Chevy nut having owned several since his teenage years
and always presents his race car in immaculate condition”
Graeme
has drag raced his own cars for many years and has been very successful.
He possesses a wealth of mechanical knowledge gained through years
of trouble shooting and problem solving in remote and, often very
isolated, work environments. Graeme and Karl often travelled and
raced together in the past, sharing parts and advice.
Mark
Grant
-
Qualified Automotive Electrician
- Self Employed
- 25 years experience
- Married with two teenage daughters and one young son
Mark
is highly regarded by local car enthusiasts and has crewed for Karl
from the very start. He is extremely talented in his trade and has
installed electronics in a large number of local Hot Rods and Drag
Cars.
Jeff
ten Thye
-
Qualified Meat Inspector
- 25 years of volunteering his time to others in the sport
- Partner with two young children
Jeff is extremely
analytical, due in part to his training in the meat industry, but
aside from that, he has built up a vast wealth of knowledge in everything
to do with vehicles as he worked in the automotive trades during
his off seasons. He is one of those dependable characters that prefer
to help others achieve their goals in lieu of his own. He has assisted
in a variety of capacities with Karl's racing from day one. Having
left the Meat Industry, Jeff is currently the Stock Controller for
Karl Boniface Plumbing Limited.
Peter
Hayes
- Qualified Transmission Rebuilder
- Owner of Auto Transmissions Limited and The Gearbox Company in Christchurch.
- 25 years experience.
- Married with three young children.
Peter knows professional motor sport
well having taken leave from his business in 1989 to spend 2.5 years
working for the FORD Motor sport Rally team in Europe. Karl first
met Peter early in his racing career when he called for assistance
with a faulty transmission. This led to Auto Trans sponsoring the
car, providing reliability, which culminated in Karl winning the
South Island Super gas Points Score in 1997, along with the New
Zealand Drag Racing Nationals B/SM title in Auckland in 1998.
